I had vegan fennel sausage on a pizza at Planet Pizza in Cambridge, Massachusetts and I immediately came home and attempted to recreate the recipe. I love this fennel sausage on pizzas and in pasta.
Tempeh Fennel Sausage
This is the perfect substitute for italian sausage on pizza, pasta, sandwiches, or in soup.
Equipment
- Skillet
- Measuring spoons
- Lemon juicer
- Garlic press
Ingredients
- 8 oz package tempeh
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp low sodium tamari or soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp ground sage
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 cloves of garlic substitute 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Juice of half a lemon
- Ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Crumble tempeh into a skillet and fill skillet with water until almost covering the tempeh.
- Cook on the stove over high heat until water begins to boil then turn heat down to medium and steam for 10 minutes.
- Drain remaining water if necessary.
- Add in the remaining ingredients to the tempeh and cook over medium heat until browned. About 7 – 10 minutes.
