This week’s post continues my bread pizza series of recipes where you can get all the ingredients from Trader Joe’s. Check out the shopping list in the notes!

This recipe is for people who enjoy spicy food. The kick from the Italian bomba red pepper sauce can be intense so feel free to modify quantities to accommodate your taste. The spicy bomba sauce pairs nicely with the sweetness of the roasted butternut squash and the coolness of the fresh rosemary leaves. The vegan feta cheese adds a creamy finish to bring all the flavors together.

Butternut Squash, Caramelized Shallot, and Rosemary Bread Pizza

If you love spicy food this pizza recipe is for you. The heat of the bomba hot pepper sauce pairs nicely with the sweetness of the butternut squash and the coolness of the fresh rosemary.

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 Chef's Knife

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Trader Joe’s San Francisco Style Sourdough bread
  • 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp olive oil divided
  • 2 Tbsp Trader Joe’s Italian bomba hot pepper sauce divided
  • Peeled and cut butternut squash
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary chopped plus more for garnish
  • 1 shallot halved and sliced
  • ½ cup Trader Joe’s vegan feta cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°

  • Place the butternut squash on a parchment-lined baking sheet and drizzle with ½ Tbsp olive oil and toss to spread oil over squash

  • Sprinkle on minced garlic, rosemary leaves, and salt and pepper to taste
  • Bake for 20 minutes flipping halfway through

  • In a medium skillet add 1 tsp olive oil and heat over medium
  • Once pan is hot add shallot and cook until carmelized stirring occasionally
  • Brush the top and bottom of the sourdough bread slice with ½ Tbsp of the olive oil

  • Top with squash

  • Place on a baking sheet in the oven for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and top with feta, shallots, more fresh rosemary leaves, and salt and pepper to taste.
